Born in Iowa, educated in Milwaukee and currently based in Austin, TX.
Her work in death care and writing explores the fantasies of a death denial culture, deconstructing them through language and alternative funeral practices.
At Eloise Woods Community Natural Burial Park, she brought visibility to the practice of green burial in Texas, specifically its accessibility and affordability. Her current project, Conservation Burial, strives to expand those concepts on a national scale.
With the same outsider spirit, Sarah’s writing touches on topics not widely considered, such as embalming as fantasy, the challenges of funeral entrepreneurship and death activism. She is a member of the Order of the Good Death.
